Mufti is a researcher, consultant, and trainer with the background expertise in the field of Management of Nonprofit Organizations, Research, Survey, Organizational Capacity Development, Human Resource Development, Law, Human Rights, Political, Security, Defense, Intelligence, Social Conflict, Law Islam, philosophy, and Financial Planning.

Mufti worked in KontraS (Commission for the Disappeared and Victim of Violence) as a member of Badan Pekerja (1999-2007) and Badan Pengurus (2010-2017). He is the Executive Director of the Institute for Defense Security and Peace Studies (IDSPS). He has been actively involved in the civil society network for Security Sector Reform, Founder and Board Omah Munir.

He is currently doing a master degree program in Philosophy of the Islamic Politic at ICAS-STFI Sadra, Jakarta. He also took various informal education/trainings in the above mentioned area in the United States, the Netherlands, Denmark, Hong Kong, etc. Mufti has been involved as researcher, consultant, trainer, participant and guest speaker in various international activities or programs of international organizations, such as the East-West Center (Hawaii), the Danish Institute for Human Rights (Denmark), the Council for a Community of Democracies (United States ), the Inter-Parliamentary Forum on Security Sector Governance (Philippines), Center for Studies on Human Rights and Democracy (Morocco), the Foundation for the Future (Jordan), North South Institute (Canada), Rights & Democracy (Canada), Human Rights First (United States), the International Committee of the Red Cross (Switzerland), Development & Peace (Canada), Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF, Switzerland), Forum ASIA, World Movement for Democracy, Search for Common Ground, International Organization for Migration, Australia Indonesia Partnership for Decentralization, etc.
